MEMORIAL PLANNED FOR THOSE LOST ON BUGALED BREIZH

The Cornish Branch Secretary Mike Chappel featured in 'le Telegramme
de Brest' newspaper article last week about the loss of the Bugaled
Breizh fishing trawler that was mysteriously sunk off the Cornish
coast in 2004.

Breton journalist Pascal Bodere of the Telegramme newspaper visited
Cornwall at the beginning of this month to conduct an interview with
Mr Chappel about the erection of a memorial stone that is being planned
on the lizard coast at the nearest point to where the Breton boat
was lost. All five crew members on board the boat were lost and the
incident sparked strong speculation from the Celtic League and others
that the sinking was the result of a NATO submarine exercise that
had been taking place in the area at the time. The Celtic League pressed
the British Ministry of Defence on the issue seeking clarification
on the deployment of naval units at the time of the sinking.

Eriger un monument à la mémoire des marins du Bugaled-Breizh sur les
falaises du Cap Lizard. Tel est le projet porté par la Celtic League,
un mouvement politique et culturel qui possède des sections dans les
« pays celtiques ».

Outre-manche, la branche cornouaillaise est dirigée par Mike Chapell.
Depuis Truro, cet ancien policier a lancé une collecte de fonds auprès
des sympathisants de la League. Six cents euros ont déjà été collectés.
« Ce mémorial sera une belle pierre gravée avec les noms des cinq
marins inscrits dessus et le mot Bugaled-Breizh, auquel sera jointe
une phrase commémorative. Car Mike Chapell en est convaincu : « La
Royal Navy cache la vérité dans cette affaire. Par le passé, il y
a déjà eu ici des disparitions inexpliquées de bateaux de pêche et
de pêcheurs dans des conditions similaires à l'affaire du Bugaled-Breizh
».

Under the photo, it reads : Mike Chapell estime qu'il y a eu une mise
sous silence du gouvernement britannique sur l'affaire du Bugaled
Breizh.
